Frequently asked questions.

What Is My Golf Fitness Handicap (GFH)?

Your golf fitness handicap is a description of how well your body moves. Your handicap is a complete assessment of your strength, flexibility, range of motion, and balance. The assessment is administrated by a TPI Certified professional. A golf fitness handicap is an indication of what your body can and cannot do while in golf posture. When a golfer has physical limitations he/she will introduce any number of compensations to execute the swing they are striving for. Compensations are never a good thing and will lead to inconsistency and increase the risk of injury.

Paul, what is your golf fitness handicap?

As of 9/23/19 my GFH is 28. With the help of my trainer Jordan Rabe MS I believe my GFH will come down and will equate to an improvement in my golf. We have set several check in dates to monitor my progress, modify my routine, and correct my form. I would like to Thank LIFETIME Fitness in Brookfield for allowing Jordan and I to work together.

Why is my golf handicap different than my golf fitness handicap?

Very rarely is someone’s golf handicap the same as their GFH. So much of GFH is predetermined by our genetics and how we have lived our life (i.e. injuries, diet, other sports, amount of daily sitting, exercise, etc.). As golfers we tend to practice our golf swing and forget about our body. THIS IS A BAD PLAN.

Can we improve and how? Yes, improvement can be made and quickly. These improvements will require effort and commitment on your part. Your first step is to have your TPI fitness professional develop your going forward plan. Depending on your specific issues, much of your effort will be done on your own, at fitness center or at home.

How will I benefit from this approach? As you improve physically your club speed will increase which means more distance, improved consistency and lower scores. Your increase in strength will improve your endurance and reduce the risk of injury. As an added bonus you will feel better.

Should my children be assessed? YES! The issues children have will be different compared to adults. But the best way to avoid problems later in life is to understand where you are at a young age. The screen will be slightly different for children versus adults.

How long take the assessment screen take? Based on the 16 different tests the screen will last 30 minutes. Generally, I/we will have some discussion following the screen to decide what is next.
